Dean's Welcome

Dean EatonOn behalf of our students, staff, and faculty, I would like to welcome you to the Bagwell College of Education at Kennesaw State University – a leading producer of teachers in the State of Georgia.  We appreciate your interest in Bagwell and hope that you will choose our college as a place to either begin your academic career or to continue it through one of our several undergraduate or graduate degree programs (MAT, MEd, EdS, EdD), endorsements, or certificate programs.  Our mission is to prepare educators to improve student learning within a collaborative teaching and learning community through innovative teaching, purposeful research, and engaged service.

Bagwell College is organized into five departments:  Educational Leadership, Elementary and Early Childhood Education, Inclusive Education, Instructional Technology, and Secondary and Middle Grades Education.  We play a leading role in the Educator Preparation Provider (EPP) unit at KSU, which also includes teacher educators affiliated with nine academic departments found in four other colleges.  Our programs are nationally recognized and approved by their respective Specialized Professional Associations (SPAs) and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). The only nationally recognized Middle Grades Teacher Education program in Georgia is ours. Similarly, we are unique in offering the only Birth through Five bachelor’s degree program accredited by the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education.

KSU is located in metropolitan Atlanta.  We are proud to partner with hundreds of public, private and international schools to prepare teachers and school administrators.  Students describe our faculty as student-centered, accessible, caring, and remarkably proficient in best practices that work in real-world classrooms. They are exemplary scholar-practitioners who collaborate with schools, community service organizations, state and national agencies, and professional organizations.  Bagwell faculty are dedicated to developing and offering programs of the highest quality to meet the needs of our students so they, in turn, will be prepared to help children with diverse learning needs develop skills to succeed in an ever-changing global and digital society.

Our excellent staff are here to facilitate your learning experience.  They are knowledgeable of university and state policies and procedures and readily available to assist you with your program plans.

A strong indicator of the quality of our acclaimed programs comes through requests from school districts for our graduates.  Several news items found throughout our website reveal the impact our graduates are making on the lives of those they serve.  You, too, can be among our distinguished alumni by enrolling in one of our many programs – face-to-face, hybrid, and online.  We would very much like the Bagwell College of Education to be your school of choice.

Professionally yours,

Arlinda J. Eaton, Ph.D.

Dean
