Dean Eaton wins GCSA 'Bridge' Impact Award

Dean-Eaton.jpgAt the Georgia Charter Schools Association’s (GCSA) annual conference, Bagwell College of Education Dean Arlinda Eaton was honored as the first recipient of the GCSA Bridge Impact Award. The Impact Award is the highest honor the Association bestows, and it is reserved for individuals who exhibit extraordinary efforts to support Georgia’s charter schools.

“It is for her vision and efforts to bridge the gap between traditional and charter schools, focusing instead on a common and collaborative vision of student achievement, that we honor Dean Arlinda Eaton of Bagwell College of Education as the inaugural recipient of the Georgia Charter Schools Association’s Bridge Impact Award,” said Kelly Cadman, Vice President of School Services for GCSA.

Dean Eaton was specifically honored for fostering the development of a leadership preparation program partnership between Lake Oconee Academy, one of the state’s most successful charter schools; Greene County School District, its hosting district; Georgia Charter Schools Association; and Bagwell College of Education. The partnership focuses on integrating Lake Oconee Academy's "best practices" in student achievement and cooperative governance into an Ed.S. program for educators from Georgia's traditional and charter public schools, and supporting those students through federal/state grant funds for disseminating "best practices" in successful charter schools.

This partnership is the first of its type in the nation.  There were 129 applicants for the first 15 slots in the program, with selected candidates representing virtually all sectors of public education in Georgia including traditional schools, schools from charter districts, conversion charters, and start-up charters.
