Program Description

The undergraduate English Education program leads to a Bachelor of Science degree, providing students with certification for teaching English/Language Arts in grades 6-12. The program prepares teachers with a rich and broad knowledge of the English discipline through coursework in British, American, and world literature; language and linguistics; writing, literature, and grammar instruction; English/Language Arts methodologies; and media and technology in the classroom. We produce teachers whose approach to English/Language Arts instruction is personally reflective and theoretically informed. The program seeks to develop a high degree of professionalism such that graduates exhibit a strong sense of commitment to students and colleagues as well as to the teaching of disciplinary content. English Education faculty are committed to student success and the effective preparation of future teachers.
