Field and Clinical Experiences

Field and Clinical ExperiencesThe purpose of educational field experiences is to provide each candidate with multiple opportunities to engage in the practical aspects of teaching in real classroom settings. The Teacher Education faculty, the Director of Clinical Experiences, Placements and Partnerships, and appropriate school personnel collaborate to plan and implement the selection of school sites, classrooms, and teaching/learning experiences appropriate to the needs of the candidates, the goals of the Educator Preparation Provider (EPP), and the GaPSC requirements. Emphasis is placed on balancing each candidate’s experiences within grade band requirements, urban, suburban and rural environments, as well as among the multicultural and diverse populations of learners served within the Kennesaw State University service area. Each candidate is expected to be engaged in the full range of experiences in the respective program’s teacher certification requirements as prescribed by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC).

The introductory course to the major includes a field component, as do several other courses in each degree program. Three field experiences form the capstone of all Teacher Education programs: Introduction to the Yearlong Clinical Experience (Pre-planning), Yearlong Clinical Experience I (YCE I) and Yearlong Clinical Experience II (YCE II). Candidates who were accepted into Teacher Education prior to fall 2014, or who are returning after a leave of absence, will need to consult with their program advisor to determine remaining field placement and program requirements. Returning candidates should also consult with ESS regarding Teacher Education requirements that may pertain to their unique circumstances.

All candidates should read the Field Experience Handbook and pay particular attention to Teacher Education Field/Clinical Placement Policies beginning on page 7. The Field Experience Handbook can be found on the CEPP website: http://bagwell.kennesaw.edu/centers/cepp, along with other placement information.
