SMGE Awards

SMGE humanizes education with learner-centered teaching, scholarship and service by building transformative, sustainable, and reciprocal partnerships grounded in fairness and inclusion with teachers, families, schools, and communities. We prepare teachers at all career stages to meet students’ intellectual and social-emotional needs in developmentally appropriate ways. Our department is nationally recognized for work in Curriculum and Instruction; Middle Grades and Secondary Education at the undergraduate and graduate levels. We have the largest doctoral enrollment in Bagwell. 

Undergraduate Programs

B.S. in Middle Grades Education


Designed to prepare effective teachers for learners in the middle grades and leads to initial teacher certification in two content areas (language arts, mathematics, science, or social studies) for grades 4-8 in Georgia.

Designed to prepare effective teachers for learners in the secondary grades and leads to initial teacher certification in mathematics, biology, chemistry, or physics for grades 6-12 in Georgia.

M.A.T. in Secondary English


Leads to a Master's degree and a teaching certificate in Secondary English (grades 6-12).
